Black Coffee Weekender

How we built the content engine behind a Grammy-winning artist's sold-out weekend event series.

Black Coffee is a Grammy-winning producer and one of the most globally recognized names in electronic music, credited with carrying South African house and afro house sound onto the world's biggest stages. The inaugural Black Coffee Weekender built a three-day festival format in Cape Town, designed from day one to become a fixture on the South African and international calendar.

How we executed the project

This was the first Black Coffee Weekender, and with a Grammy-winning headliner attached, it was also the biggest edition from day one. There was no room for error, because how we covered this edition would set the tone and energy for the whole series moving forward. With no prior year to reference, we had to define the event in real time rather than execute against a pre-set strategy.
In 2025, we were brought in under UGroup to handle content production across the full three-day event. This included the build, the charity dinner, the main event, and brunch, all captured as one continuous production rather than isolated moments. By 2026, Music People contracted us directly, and production scaled up with the event itself. The structure stayed the same, but Peggy Gou headlining her first ever South African show raised what we needed to capture.
In 2025, we shot and published a full suite of social assets live on site. We later reused that same 2025 content as the primary marketing campaign for the 2026 edition, and it sold out 8,000 tickets. For 2026, our focus shifted to building a content bank specifically for marketing and paid media, staged to do the same job for 2027 that the 2025 content did for 2026.
